Caley Bennett

Associate / Detroit Metro Office

Patent attorney Caley Bennett handles all aspects of patent prosecution for a variety of clients. She provides meticulous research and preparation for IP matters involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemical processes, low gravity production and research environments, as well as mechanical innovations. Her process-oriented approach to representation elevates client confidence and provides an increased level of protection for their inventions.

Caley has experience preparing patent applications, office action responses, and drafting legal research memos and articles for her colleagues and clients. She embraces the value of exhaustive research and the beneficial outcomes it provides. Her background in life sciences and a lifelong interest in space exploration give her valuable insight into the fundamental processes and theories of a broad spectrum of biological and cellular development concepts. Clients appreciate her ability to distill seemingly complex and chaotic matters into rational thought.

Caley’s career has been driven by an innate desire to learn. She has worked as a law clerk in private practice, a manager in retail-based sales, a research and teaching assistant, and interned for the Michigan Court of Appeals—all while balancing the highs and lows of single-parenthood. She focused her formal education on life sciences, earning her bachelor’s degree in molecular biology and biotechnology. She has experience in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell culture, as well as a variety of immunologic assay and laboratory techniques. Her graduate studies focused on investigating the effect of microgravity on dendritic cell development, phenotype, and metabolism by culturing murine dendritic cells under both normal gravity and in rotary cell culture system/high aspect ratio vessels (RCCS/HARV). Her experience in retail management not only provided income throughout law school but sharpened her organizational and interpersonal management skills.

Caley thrives on research and learning and is a self-described purveyor of “fun facts.”
