Associate Attorney – Electrical Engineer/Chemical Sciences – Washington DC Metro

Job Title:         Associate Attorney

FLSA Status:    Exempt

Summary: Harness IP is a leading intellectual property law firm consistently ranked among the top ten patent law firms in the U.S. We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney to join our Herndon, VA office. This position is ideal for third-year law students graduating in 2025, recent graduates, or attorneys with at least 0-5 years of experience who have technical background in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or electrical engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze newly assigned and existing matters, ensuring effective legal representation from initiation to conclusion.
  • Draft, review, and finalize legal documents in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Conduct thorough legal research using all available resources, including legal databases and libraries.
  • Provide well-founded legal opinions and strategic counsel to clients.
  • Conduct negotiations, where appropriate, to effectively resolve client matters.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school (2025 graduates are encouraged to apply).
  • Admission to the DC and/or VA state bar (or eligibility to sit for the bar exam upon graduation).
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

Billable Hours:
This position offers a total of 1,900 billable hours, which may be adjusted on a case-by-case basis depending on experience and education.

Patent Agent or Patent Attorney – Biotech – St. Louis Metro

Our St. Louis Metro office is in search of a candidate to support our expanding Biotech team.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications and minimum education requirements:

  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and/or doctorate degree in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or similar; Antibody experience preferred.
  • At least two years of laboratory research experience.

Remote candidates with experience of at least four years will be considered.

Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney – Electrical/Computer Engineering – St. Louis Metro

Our St. Louis Metro office has an immediate opening for an associate attorney. This position offers an opportunity to develop a varied and interesting practice preparing and prosecuting patent applications on a range of commercially significant technologies for large- and medium-sized clients from diverse industries, including semiconductors, computer-related technologies, telecommunications, consumer electronics, digital image processing, and robotics.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Zero to three years of experience.
  • An undergraduate or advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering.
  • Eligibility to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and familiarity with U.S. patent practice, including demonstrated experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications (these are not required but are a plus).
