In its recent ranking of leading patent firms, Juristat listed Harness IP as one of the nation’s top patent firms as determined by performance metrics. The ranking includes all firms practicing before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The USPTO’s Technical Centers (TC) are divided into jurisdictions by assigned fields of technology, and each is responsible for all patent processing within a subject area. The annual list recognized the firm’s work in three tech centers: TC 1700, the center responsible for chemical and materials engineering; TC 2600, which covers communications; and TC 3700, the center that processes patents related to mechanical engineering, manufacturing, gaming, and medical devices/processes. The firm also ranked among the top 10 firms in number of patents filed in each of these tech centers.

The rankings consider both volume and performance within a specific tech center based on three metrics: 1) number of applications filed, 2) allowance rate, and 3) average number of USPTO actions before allowance. The database from which Juristat creates the ranking contains more than 10 million pending, abandoned, and granted patent applications. To be considered, firms must file more than 50 patent applications in a specific tech center in a single year.
