Tim focuses on securing patent protection for a wide range of innovations and technologies with a special emphasis on software related innovations. Before becoming a patent attorney, Tim designed and developed software applications for a number of years, giving him the industry experience to readily grasp technical inventions and formulate a strategy that aligns with his clients’ business objectives.

Tim has developed intellectual property protection strategies for global corporations and small, emerging companies alike, all of whom appreciate his frank and practical approach. He has handled numerous transactional matters involving software patents and related issues, and is considered a specialist in this area by his clients and colleagues. Additionally, he has extensive experience advising clients on intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

In his third decade of practice, Tim has prepared and prosecuted more than a thousand patent applications involving a wide range of technologies, including analog circuitry, battery management, fitness equipment, medical devices, network management tools, non-contact sensing, optical networking, speech processing, tactical radios and wireless networking communication protocols. He knows first-hand what it takes to secure patent protection and offers proven results.

Prior to law school, Tim served as a Consultant with Andersen Consulting, where he designed and developed client-server software applications for a number of large companies. Tim’s consulting experience included directing a team responsible for developing technical architectures which supported the software applications.
