John White Tapped for Virginia Lawyers Hall of Fame
Harness IP is pleased to announce that John White, an attorney at the firm’s metro Washington, D.C. office, has been chosen by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as a member of its Virginia Lawyer Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The Hall of Fame honors attorneys over the age of 60 or those who have been in practice more than 30 years.
John is a top Virginia lawyer whose practice focuses on providing clients with a strategic understanding of patents and their role in achieving tangible business outcomes. He has considerable experience in all aspects of intellectual property (IP) law, including patent and trademark prosecution, litigation, infringement and validity analysis, and opinion writing. He founded and ran two successful IP law firms and has a background in civil engineering.
Virginia Lawyers Weekly, a publication serving the state’s legal community, chooses Hall of Fame members based on career accomplishments, contributions to the development of Virginia law, contributions to the bar and the commonwealth at large, and efforts to improve the quality of justice in Virginia. John’s contributions to IP law, both in the commonwealth and nationally, are considerable. Known as the “Dean of Patent Law,” he has helped prepare more than 70% of active U.S. patent attorneys and agents for their careers as patent practitioners. Since 1995, he has been the creator, author and principal lecturer for the Practicing Law Institute’s Patent Exam Course and has taught 1,200+ would-be patent attorneys and agents annually. He has also taught 400+ U.S. patent examiners law and evidence processes.
Prior to joining Harness IP, John founded and ran an international patent search and translation firm, an IP publication company, and a patent illustration company. He earned his Juris Doctorate at George Washington University and is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
