Philip Warn advises clients on all aspects of U.S. and international patent, trademark and intellectual property law, focusing on patent application, prosecution, clearance and portfolio management across diverse industries. He works closely with companies to develop strategic intellectual property portfolios that align with business objectives, protect innovation, and maximize competitive advantage. His clients range from automotive and aerospace manufacturers to chemical and biomedical companies, as well as technology-driven startups seeking guidance on patent strategy and licensing.
Philip brings a practical, problem-solving approach to patent matters, combining deep technical experience with legal insight. He helps clients evaluate and manage their patent portfolios, identify opportunities for innovation protection, and navigate complex regulatory and commercial environments. By understanding each client’s industry and business priorities, he positions himself as a trusted adviser, translating technical and legal concepts into actionable business strategies.
- Developed and managed patent portfolios for automotive and manufacturing companies, including extrusions, injection molding, paint films, coatings, polymers, transmissions and transfer cases, front end modules for vehicles, painting processes, off road vehicle accessories, induction heating and fluid systems.
- Advised manufacturers on trademark clearances and patent strategies, and licensing of technology,
- Guided startups and mid-size companies in patent development, prosecution, portfolio evaluation and freedom to practice and design around opinions and guidance.
Prior to entering private practice, Philip worked for Consumers Power Company, where he conducted chemical and radiological testing to support nuclear power plant operations. Outside of his professional life, he is a helicopter and fixed-wing pilot, enjoys shooting sports, land management, outdoor hunting activities, and collects antique and rare firearms.
